Consider the following animations in which only triangleA has keyframes:

triangleB will NOT change its opacity with triangleA. Position, rotation, and scale are the only attributes that are "inherited" while parenting in After Effects.


B does NOT fade out with A even when parented

While "inheriting" position, rotation, and scale from its parent, a child can still do its own rotating, scaling, and positioning:


When Parented, B can rotate on its own while still inheriting transformations from A
